Economic Sociology

One of the Most Vibrant Fields of Sociology

economic sociology. perspectives and conversations is an online publication that contributes to one of the most vibrant fields of sociology today, delivering relevant and current content for scholars interested in economic sociology on both a regional and more global level. It contains scholarly articles on research issues, an overview of developments that are relevant to economic sociology, and reports on the field in specific countries as well as in a broader context. Regular features include book reviews, interviews with distinguished sociologists, and information on ongoing research projects.

The editor is appointed by the editorial board to serve for one year and is supported both by the board and by the book reviews editor, who selects newly published books that are relevant to the target audience for review by qualified contributors. Committed to the idea of free access to information and open communication, economic sociology. perspectives and conversations welcomes contributions, suggestions, and input from the community. You can contact the editors here.

economic sociology. perspectives and conversations is an open access publication and appears three times a year as a PDF through this website, where back issues are also available to download. Please subscribe here if you would like to be notified when future issues go online.

A note on our name

When this publication started out over 20 years ago as an electronic newsletter, the very first issue in October 1999 welcomed readers by outlining its aim “to encourage collaboration and interaction between people who are interested in economic sociology in Europe.” Since then it has grown into an online publication with over 3,000 subscribers globally and simultaneously shifted beyond its original scope and its European focus. In recognition of this welcome development, the editorial board has decided to rename the publication to reflect its now broader, more global appeal: economic sociology. perspectives and conversations will appear in November 2021 as the first issue of the new series and, fittingly, the first to be edited out of Asia, with a regional focus on East Asia. The editor of the new series will be Dr Cheris S. C. Chan, Associate Professor in the University of Hong Kong’s Department of Sociology.  The editors and editorial board thank all our contributors past and present and hope that readers will enjoy both this final issue under the current title and future issues of the new economic sociology. perspectives and conversations.
